The position is currently held by market leader - Samsung, who has overtaken Apple to emerge as the clear market leader in India's premium smartphone segment in the January-March quarter. The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are the recent launches from the Korean giant that offers supreme Android smartphone experience, but at a hefty price point.
How LeEco plans to beat the industry veterans?
LeEco, which is among the top five technology brands in China is known for producing feature packed Android smartphones at a fraction of cost of what Samsung, A pple, LG and other big guns are offering. The recent handsets - Le 2 and Le Max 2 by the company features top-of-the line Qualcomm Snapdragon CPUs in their respective categories and are value for money propositions. However, it is not just the hardware that the company is banking upon. LeEco's business model is highly focused on its rich content ecosystem that the company is trying to pitch to Indian consumers. The company says that it wants Indian consumers to be the members of LeEco content ecosystem and not just mere users. Consumers who buy the Le smartphones get access to LeEco's entertainment package for the next year. The smartphones come pre-loaded with Le Vidi, Le View and Le Live that are at the core of LeEco's ecosystem.
During the meet, LeEco mentioned that the company has a total of 680 Content Distribution Networks (CDN) worldwide working on non-sharing basis to deliver a variety of multimedia content to smartphone's screens. And this gives an edge to LeEco over other content providers who fail to match the speed to deliver the content to users.
Adding to this, the phone's hardware (the processor) also plays an important part in the process and Le smartphones utlise industry leader - Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU's to deliver high performance.
Atul Jain, COO of Smart Electronics Business at LeEco India said, "Being an early adopter of Qualcomm Technologies, powerful processors have helped LeEco leapfrog into the future with its superphones".
It is important to note that even a high-performance processor, placed in a poorly-designed smartphone, can still deliver a poor user experience. This is where LeEco adds real value for consumers, by creating differentiating user experiences, designing innovative devices and focusing on delivering high performance, he added.
Apart from the powerful hardware and rich content ecosystem, the Chinese internet conglomerate offered a new technology called CDLA for lossless music output. The technology utlises the Type-C port and ditches the standard 3.5mm headphone jack to excel on the audio performance.
Besides the technology and content ecosystem, LeEco is also ensuring that the consumers do not become the victim of the flash sale model, which ultimately forces them to look for other options. Consumers in India will be able to purchase the latest Le 2 directly from LeMall or Flipkart without the restrictions of flash sale. This will prove as an important product marketing strategy for the Chinese company who wants to beat the current leaders in the country in terms of smartphone sales.
Overall, LeEco seems to be on right path to woo the Indian audience with a huge repository of multimedia content and a range of appealing products. However, only time will tell the company's success rate in the India's smartphone industry, which has no dearth of options to choose from.
