Upgraded ZTE Axon 7 with Force Touch Display & 6GB RAM Launched in the U.S at $499

In the first half of 2016, ZTE has launched the flagship smartphone Axon 7 in China. Unlike many other Chinese smartphone brands, ZTE had some decent market presence in the Western markets. Even the Axon 7 was made available in the U.S and European markets. Unlike in China, the company has launched only the 4GB variant of the Axon 7 in the U.S priced at $399 (approx Rs. 27,200). Almost six months after launching the Axon 7, now the company has launched the 6GB RAM variant of the Axon 7 in the U.S. This new variant comes with a price tag of $499 (approx Rs. 34,000) and is already on sale through the company's official website.

Apart from the change in few specifications, the design looks completely same as the 4GB RAM variant. The 5.5-inch AMOLED display with Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution now supports Force Touch. This works same as the 3D Touch on the new iPhones. Even before to the last year's iPhone 6S and 6S Plus; ZTE Axon Mini is the world's first smartphone to feature a pressure sensitive display. Talking about the new Axon 7, it is now protected by Gorilla Glass 5 instead of last gen Gorilla Glass 4. Even the storage is now bumped up from 64GB to 128GB on this new device. Apart from these changes, rest of the specifications remains same as earlier.

It is powered by the Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor coupled with Adreno 530 GPU. The device runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based MiFavor UI 4.0. The 128GB of internal storage can be further expanded with the use of MicroSD card slot. The device supports dual SIM dual standby with the help of hybrid SIM slot where the user can opt either for a secondary SIM or a MicroSD card. The Axon 7 sports a 20MP rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, PDAF, OIS, and EIS. For selfies, it has an 8MP camera with f/1.8 aperture that can also record videos in Full HD resolution. It also offers Hi-Fi audio output with the dedicated AK4961 and AK4490 audio chips and front facing stereo speakers.

With all these power hungry specifications, the device comes with a 3,250mAh battery and Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging support. Earlier to the Axon 7, the OnePlus 3 is the only smartphone to be launched in the U.S with 6GB of RAM. Even, OnePlus also launched the upgraded OnePlus 3T smartphone using the new Snapdragon 821 SoC. Last month, ZTE launched the Axon 7 Max smartphone with dual camera setup. It sports a large 6-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display and is powered by the mid-range Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz. The Axon 7 Max includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage along with MicroSD card slot.

On the back, it sports dual 13MP sensors with laser autofocus and dual tone LED flash. While the front camera remains same as on the Axon 7 with 8MP sensor. Compared to Axon 7, the Axon 7 Max also comes with a larger 4,100mAh battery but supports only Quick Charge 2.0. There are dual AK4962 dedicated Hi-Fi audio chip for better audio output. According to the company, the device supports 3D viewing out of the box without any additional accessories. It is currently retailing at 2999 Yuan (approx $435 / Rs. 29,700) in China.
