Google Wants To Sell Low-cost Smartphones In Africa, But China Is Already Doing So!!

In the African continent, the appetites are huge around the market of smartphones low-cost. According to several projections, more than 120 million smartphones will be sold in 2020 in Africa. And today, 20% of the devices sold cost less than 100 dollars.

A market in which Google launched the Infinix Hot 2 last week in Morocco, a smarphone launched under the Android One program and whose modest price is displayed at 80 euros, explains the site Clubic . The Mountain View company markets this smartphone in six French-speaking African countries. Several specificities are provided especially for the users of the concerned countries, like a reduction of 90% of the queries found by Google search. This makes it possible to load pages faster, while broadband is still very rare in Africa.

But the American giant is not the first to try to seduce the African market.

Cheap Chinese smartphones flood the continent. Chinese generic products account for about two-thirds of the smarphones used by African Internet users and their purchase price is often less than $ 50 US, said the US site Quartz . "The difference will be on customer service , " said Taha Jiwaji, executive director of Bongo Live, a Tanzanian company specializing in telephony and digital, in Quartz. "On the technological aspects, only specialists can see the differences between the products. People first look at the price."

The other major competitor of Google in Africa is MTN, the leading telecommunications firm on the continent. The MTN Smart S720i is for example sold for 47 dollars in Nigeria.
