One of the most important things that customers look for in a smartphone is RAM capacity, especially in a market where an extra 1GB of RAM makes a big difference. Some phone makers, like Samsung, go as far as releasing variants of their flagship smartphones, with more RAM in certain countries.
However, local Chinese companies have found a solution for people who are keen on their phones, and don't want to exchange them just because they have low RAM capacity. For $60, a company from China managed to add 2GB of RAM to XDA member Cathair2906's Nexus 5X and thus up the RAM capacity to 4GB.
Reportedly, 1GB of RAM can be added to various smartphones for a price lower than $60. The user sent his Nexus 5X with bootloop issue to China for CPU fixing and aside from fixing the problem, the company also upgraded the RAM capacity on the device.
This practice voids the warranty on the smartphone4GB of RAM seems the maximum amount that local Chinese companies will upgrade smartphones belonging to users who don't mind voiding their warranty. The owner of the Nexus 5X smartphone also update his device from Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow to Android 7.1.2 Nougat without encountering any issues and stated that the smartphone is much faster than before.
It's worth highlighting that such a practice voids the warranty on your smartphone, as it is conducted at unofficial centers. Most likely, the local company in China can up the RAM capacity of a number of smartphones, but the actual models weren't revealed.
In a similar note, we recently reported about a guy who went to China and built an iPhone 6s from scratch, using spare smartphone parts that he found at the market. The process required months to complete, but the end result is quite impressive and the smartphone seems to run smoothly. China truly seems like the place where anything is possible, good and bad.
